Perth (pre walk)
Checked into pre-walk accommodation at the Perth Ambassador Hotel. This is where we will be collected tomorrow by the Cape to Cape Explorer Tours bus.
2 September 2023
Day 1 - Cape Naturaliste to Yallingup
Walk Distance: 17.5 km
Weather was strong winds and passing showers
Collected from hotel in the morning and driven to Cape Naturaliste.
There was some beach walking (short distances) but we walked mainly on the cliff tops
Wildflowers were out which was unexpected this early in the season
We had dinner at Caves House (straight after the walk) and then we were driven to accommodation at Margaret's Beach Resort

Da 2 - Yallingup to Moses Rock
Walk Distance: 19.4 Km
Weather much the same as the day before
More beach walking and a creek crossing. We had a coffee break at Lamont's Cafe at Smiths Beach (nice 25 minute break) after the first big beach walk
The path today had more variation in it with scrub land and rocky outcrops.
A short while before lunch we had 'Welcome to Country' and talk by a local elder.
About an hour before the end of todays section we visited Quininup Falls which are quite lovely (another creek crossing before we got to them though)

Da 3 - Moses Rock to Gracetown
Walk Distance: 14.8 Km
Temperature a little cooler than yesterday and wind abating a little
Started at 0845 and had morning tea about 3 km into the walk at the Moses Rock campsite.
A few creek crossings and some beach walking as well as sand dunes.
We had lunch towards the top of a steel staircase. Walked through some beautiful melaleuca woodland. Stopped for a break at 'the loo with a view' which is on top of the Wilyabrup Climbing and Abseiling Sea Cliffs and has a great view.
Arrived at Gracetown about 1445 and then off to Bettenay's Winery for a wine tasting before being driven back to accommodation

Day 4 - Gracetown to Gnarabup
Walk Distance: 20.9 Km
Temperature 16.5
Wind strong gusting at times
Started on the other side of Gracetown at 0835 and walked along a low coastal path for about 5.5 Km where we went up a sandhill. Heading inland we stopped at Ellensbrook (a pioneer cottage) for morning tea. Continuing on through high wattle scrub we stopped at a Meekadarribee, a cave, and read the story indigenous story about the area. We stopped again at the 12km mark for lunch under a pepper tree (we caught up with the group ahead of us here).
About 1.5 Km from the tree we came out onto another beach at Joey's Nose and walked a short distance, about 1 Km, on the beach then headed up hill to follow the track at the top of the beach. We went back onto the beach just before Margret River and had to cross the river by canoe (the river was flowing very quickly and was about chest deep). The walk finished at the Surfside Resort and our accommodation.

Day 5 - Gnarabup to Boranup
Walk Distance: 22.1 Km
Temperature 16.5
Started the day close to our accommodation. Walked inland past large grass trees and along a good track through low shrubs. Spent some time in a quiet dell by a creek and picked a lot of lilies which are a noxious weed.
Walked along Boodjidup Beach for about 2 km to the car park at Redgate Beach where we were met by Floss (the resorts chef) and we enjoyed a welcome coffee with scones and jam.
After a short beach walk (complete with creek crossing) we headed back inland to follow the track at the bottom of an escarpment. We had to hold onto a chain to negotiate our way down a steep rock staircase before having lunch at Connelly Cave. We remained inland for the rest of the day walking through a tall tree forest and stopping at the Conto Campground for a short break. We finished at the bus which was waiting for us at the start of a 4x4 track.
